π¦ IC Information
Character Name: Ken Ichijouji
Age: 12
Canon: Digimon Adventure 02
Canon Point: post-02 canon, spring/summer 2003
Character History: Wikimon
Canon Abilities:
π Ken is a "Chosen Child", a human linked to a "Digital Monster" from another world. Ken's partner Digimon is called Wormmon.
π Wormmon is a coward and a weakling, easily startled and scared. A clingy, needy Digimon, he hero-worships Ken and believes in him even when Ken can't believe in himself. Wormmon gets jealous if others show Ken too much attention, but he's also a hard worker who can be brave and strong if it's to protect "Ken-chan". He accepts Ken as he is and often urges him not to be too hard on himself.
π Ken has a "Digivice" that connects him and Wormmon. Using the Digivice, he can temporarily "evolve" Wormmon into a stronger form, Stingmon. If Wormmon is low on energy, he "devolves" into weaker forms but evolves again as he perks up.
π Wormmon's full evolution line runs: Leafmon -> Minomon -> Wormmon -> Stingmon. (He can evolve further by combining with a friend's Digimon, but until/unless we get Daisuke and V-mon in game that's a moot point.)
π Leafmon and Minomon can't do much of anything battlewise. Wormmon can shoot sticky webbing from his mouth like the world's wimpiest Spider-Man.
π Stingmon is the only combatant form. He can fly, move at rapid speeds, and stab things with the stingers on his gauntlets. He's this tall compared to Ken.
π Ken's Digivice also lets him travel between worlds. Given that he's being jamjarred, this won't work any more.
π Although it's mostly latent, Ken has a "Dark Seed" implanted in his neck - a bundle of concentrated Darkness Incarnate. As a result, he can sense other Ontologically Evil Stuff. Sometimes sensing this has Extreme Pain as a side-effect. Fun!
Inventory:
π Wormmon
π D-3 Digivice
π D-Terminal (basically a fancy texting machine; like the Digivice, it's useless here)

π¦ Personality
- Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
- If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?
- If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
- What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
I wouldn't say Ken "believes in magic" so much as he's open to the idea of things common sense would call "impossible" happening. He marveled, but accepted, when a strange device flew out of his brother's computer, and has since gone on all sorts of adventures. He's learned not to take any presupposition as absolute, especially since jumping to conclusions about how the world works caused so much trouble as the Digimon Kaiser. And he's definitely familiar with things like multiverse theory and travel - it's a regular part of his day.
So when confronted with magic, Ken's questions aren't going to be "what?" so much as "how" - or, especially, "why". Just because a new world doesn't operate by the logic he's used to from Earth doesn't mean it lacks its own logic, and Ken's the cerebral sort of kid who will want to decode that.
He focuses especially on assigning things significance: he's always linked correlation and causation a bit too strongly, often concluding whatever bad thing happened was his fault. This is a kid who wished his brother would "disappear", then blamed himself when that brother got hit by a car. Ken's kneejerk reaction to anything is "I did this", and his kneejerk reaction to things happening TO him is "why was I, specifically, chosen for this?".
It's not an existential query. He means it literally. He wants to know, point-blank, why him. Why did this, specifically, have to happen to Ken Ichijouji, specifically. He is a dog with a bone re: "why me?". Magic exists? He'll take that in stride. But why did the magic target HIM?
I apologize in advance to every NPC.
Ken would agonize over this, since it's an opportunity to have his brother back. Not only does he miss Osamu and wishes he'd known him better, he also knows that his brother returning would make his parents happy, something he's always valued. He's tired of making decisions that he regrets and would want to pick a wish that would help the most people, one he can be proud of.
He'd probably also consider something like "I wish the forces of darkness were all defeated never to return", because the never-ending nature of their battles against evil has discouraged him in the past. Ken would very much like for things to have an endpoint - a time when nobody's suffering anymore, a time when he no longer has to bear the weight of his crimes. But that's such a large wish that the cautious part of himself would probably start wondering whether it can really be granted "without consequence".
After MUCH deliberation, therefore - and probably a lot of qualifying queries to the person offering to grant the wish - the desire to assuage the pain he caused as the Digimon Kaiser would win out, and he'd wish that all injuries, deaths, and destruction the Digimon Kaiser caused would be reversed. He's accepted that under normal circumstances, there's no changing the past, only moving forward - but if he could save the Digital World from his own immature, ignorant lashing-out, with no consequences for real - if he, personally, could do that with his own two hands.....That's tempting.
This one is DEFINITELY his deceased older brother Osamu. Osamu passed away while their relationship was, to put it lightly, fraught, and as Ken's gotten older he's realized just how little he understood his golden-boy big brother. He's accepted that he'll never know what Osamu was thinking, or who he could've been when not accidentally pressured by their parents to be a perfect overachiever - but the opportunity to see him again and thank him for the good days instead of just resenting the bad ones, if presented, would be catnip.
He would probably also follow Wormmon or his best friend Daisuke into another realm, as he trusts them to have his best interests at heart....but not to have thought their actions through. So while Ken would follow Osamu because Osamu's presence is a lure, he'd follow Wormmon or Daisuke to make sure they were OK.
Ken's dominant character trait is canonically, explicitly "kindness." Not necessarily "kindness" in the sense of "being pleasant to everyone" - while Ken tends to be soft-spoken and unobtrusive, his pride wounds easily, he has a temper, and he can be awkwardly brusque to the point of rudeness. Instead, Ken's kindness runs deeper than surface behavior: it's at the root of what he values.
Ken is "kind" in the sense that he's unconsciously, constantly considerate of others. He's aware that his actions have consequences, and puts other people's well-being before his own. He'll jump in the line of fire to protect someone he barely knows or who doesn't like him, he'll surrender himself to kidnappers if he thinks it'll help innocent kids go free. He feeds his Digimon partner first at mealtimes, and worries about, well, making his parents worry. When he takes action against evildoers, it's not just to atone for his own misdeeds. He wants to prevent others from suffering, and if it looks like someone's about to make a mistake he's made, he especially can't stand by.
This kindness isn't always a good thing, though. Wormmon cautions Ken about being "overwhelmed by his own kindness" - letting others walk all over him or wound his sensitive heart. Ken's extremely credulous, believing without doubt when Osamu claims he's the "worst kind of person" and easily trolled/manipulated by Oikawa and Archnemon. He also punishes himself for having normal human feelings like "resentment" or "a need for attention". It's okay to have needs of his own, and it's okay to take things at his own pace. He's deserving of love just for existing, and doesn't need to try to be anybody else. Ken's emotional journey is very much about realizing and internalizing that, giving him a firmer inner core.
